A COURTHOUSE WEDDING
Timeline: December 6, 2012
Mapp to Fitness is more than just a gym—it’s a story of love, resilience, and community. Our journey began on a special day that marked not only the start of our fitness vision but the start of our lives together. It wasn’t a traditional wedding, but it was perfect for us. On that memorable day in the courthouse of Graham, NC, we became husband and wife, blending our family, including my oldest daughter. That day was filled with nervousness, love, joy, and promises for the future, and it set the foundation for everything Mapp to Fitness would become. Looking back on that day always brings things into perspective. It reminds us of how much we relied on each other—even in the act of eloping—and how far we’ve come since then. What started as a shared dream has grown into a thriving community

A YEAR OF GROWTH & STRENGTH
Timeline: December 6, 2013
The first year of our marriage brought new challenges and growth. With Rock deployed to Afghanistan for 9 months, we had to strengthen our bond from afar. The distance tested us, but it also brought us closer together. After Rock’s return, we transitioned from North Carolina to Texas, a significant move that reshaped our lives.
During this time, we found Christ even more strongly with the support of our church family at First Church of God and Christ. We began volunteering and joined the Men’s and Women’s group departments, deepening our faith and community connections. For me, adjusting to life as a stay-at-home mom in a new state without the familiarity of a job or local network was a major transition. It was a time of personal growth, learning to embrace a new role while navigating feelings of lost independence.

CIVILIAN LIFE & EXPLORATION
Timeline: 2014-2015
In 2014, our family grew with the birth of our youngest daughter—a beautiful blessing after the challenges of deployment and adjusting to everyday life. But as we settled into family life, new changes arose. In 2015, Rock’s Army career came to a close. Retirement brought uncertainty as we transitioned to civilian life. It was a time of faith and trust, as the future felt unpredictable.
We decided to move back to North Carolina, where I pursued my dream of starting “Rhonda Lynette”, a clothing company for tall women. Though it was my vision, Rock stood beside me, supporting me in every way. Our venture flourished! My designs were showcased in New York and LA Fashion Week. They were worn by well-known comedians, WNBA players, and other influential tall women. We even made our way into boutiques in California.
At the same time, Rock found success in powerlifting, winning 2nd and 1st place titles in USPA competitions and achieving victories in the 365 international federations. As we approached 2020, my passion began to shift from fashion to fitness, setting the stage for the next chapter in our journey.

OUR MAPP TO FITNESS
Timeline: 2022 - Now
Rock earned certifications as an elite trainer too. In 2022, It became clear that the logical next step was to combine our personal training businesses. You’d think it would have been second nature for us to join forces sooner! Once we made the decision, there was no looking back. We remained grounded in faith and continuously refined our ideology and training model to focus on our niche, which has brought remarkable growth.
Our unified approach has gained us hundreds of clients, product advertising deals, commercial opportunities, and features in numerous interviews, podcasts, and inspirational posts. We've been able to represent fitness and wellness at amazing events, including Advance Auto Parts Juneteenth Expo, Town of Wake Forest Minority Business Expo, Boys and Girls Club community events, UNC fitness and wellness education for kids, and the Marriage Money and Sex Expo. We also had the honor of being a vendor for the Marriage Improvement Council and taking part in the YMCA Minority Juneteenth Business Expo. Currently, we are training the Women’s Ministry and members of Word of God Fellowship Church.
Through this journey, Mapp to Fitness has become a powerful platform, enabling us to share our passion for fitness and wellness while impacting lives on a larger scale. This is not just a business—it's a movement.
FITNESS JOURNEY & MENTAL HEALTH
Timeline: 2020 - 2021
My fitness journey evolved in 2020. What began as a casual pursuit to gain weight turned into a serious passion as I recorded and shared my workouts on Instagram. Encouraged by the women who sought advice on my routines, I dove deeper into fitness. My journey took on greater significance when I faced unexpected health challenges. Heart issues triggered by anxiety and panic attacks that mimicked symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis stopped me in my tracks. After weeks of uncertainty, my doctors diagnosed me with anxiety and panic attacks. I lost weight, dropping from 153 lbs to 130 lbs, which only fueled me to get back to the gym, regain my strength, and build muscle. Over time, my workouts became more consistent, and I regained her weight. I reached my goal of 160 lbs. As my fitness journey gained momentum, so did my role in inspiring others. I began sharing my story, encouraging other women to pursue their fitness goals.
I became a certified personal trainer, glute specialist, nutrition specialist, and strength and conditioning coach. My business took off as I built a community of women dedicated to their health and fitness. Meanwhile, Rock faced a devastating personal loss when he lost his job in the government engineering field—a first in his career. This hardship brought new challenges, but also a deeper sense of unity and resilience for the family. Rock’s perseverance paid off when he won the heavyweight championship of the NC International Kickboxing Federation and launched a successful contracting business, building strong networks with Black-owned companies. He also transformed his own fitness, losing 115 pounds by training 2-3 times daily, and played a crucial role in helping Jaques Gorman’s strength and conditioning during his run for the Rocket Combat Sports Lightweight Championship.
